I'm sure they do at some Uni's. I didn't know mine offered African studies and African American studies. You'll be surprised if you look.

We spend so much time on european history yet when it comes to our own native americans we dont spend any time at all...probably because it would show who the true savages were (the "americans") taking native american land and killing them....i learned about native americans by myself out of curiosity since im a junior in highschool and still havent spent any time on them.

They want you to believe that the Pilgrims brought peace, harmony and thanksgiving to the natives. But the true reality is that the natives were massacred to near genocide and their land taken. What native Americans truly celebrate Thanksgiving? The history books don't want to portray the first Americans as savages that killed natives and held slaves.

The individual native tribes agreed to be placed on small, leftover portions of land in America they call home so that they can be left in peace. They signed a treaty to become sovereign and independent from the U.S. government and to seize continued bloodshed.

NA History Month is November, and Latino History Month is in September.

@llllllll: It's better than Thanksgiving in Canada, which is on Columbus Day. How ironic.

Why are people so surprised that there are many ethnic groups who have a history/heritage month? I'm not even an American and I still know these things.
This question gets asked here on the daily.

Hispanic heritage month is September 15 - October 15. There is a Native American history month. I just don't know when it is. Blacks, Hispanics, Asians/Pacific Islanders, Native Americans all have their own history months. I wonder what group is left out.
European ethnic groups have cultural celebrations like St.Patricks Day, Columbus Day, Oktoberfest etc. We don't spend a month talking about a certain nationality of White people in schools & in the media.

That, and the fact that the whites consistently BROKE every treaty they ever made with the natives.

Even the very first settlers were completely obnoxious. The built settlements on native burial grounds (because the land was conveniently already cleared- even the plymouth settlement was built right over the graves of the wampanoag) Then they started using the local fishing stream as their toilet!

They were rude, stinky (seldom bathed) and spread diseases like smallpox and influenza, which just decimated the local population.
